Does using input A make sense to be turned into output B and what has to be done or used to turn A into B. I try to look at things like rational equations. As for turning bamboo into paper I know nothing about but I stay away from it regardless just based on what I know from my sphere/work. Not to mention most places making bamboo yarn are dumping the waste chemicals and water into natural water ways. It’s a scam many brands don’t fully research for tell the full story about. I work in fashion/materials development and can tell you anything marketed as sustainable containing bamboo is a greenwash, to turn bamboo into a usable yarn requires tons of mechanical and physical processing and you’re left with viscose in the end that just used bamboo instead of wood pulp/cellulose as the input.

Bamboo is a highly greenwashable plant and product. Of course price may not be your only consideration, but I found this helpful for me to balance cost against other attributes of the products.Įdit: u/mblair017 shared a link to the NRDCs report on toilet paper and I wanted to share it here as well: I was surprised that some of the bamboo options were not far from that price. I also compared the above to the Charmin I used to get from Costco, which was $13.20 / 12 rolls using the online & shipped price.

I tried to include shipping in the total cost, but I didn't always capture that. The below table contains a cost comparison, using the max bulk option to compare the costs (since I prefer to order in bulk.) The table is sorted by cost per 12 rolls. I only considered companies I found with bamboo TP and didn't use plastic in their packaging. I was shopping for a new toilet paper brand and wanted to share some of my research for anyone else who may be interested.
